Valley Rock Gym
A brand redesign for a community bouldering gym located in the Pacific Northwest.
- Logo, merchandise, social graphics, business card
- Roles: Brand design
Valley Rock Gym is a bouldering gym in Corvallis, Oregon that prides itself on the values of climbing, community, education, and wellness. Since moving to the Pacific Northwest, I was bit by the climbing bug like so many others, which led me to VRG and inspired this project.
The logo uses organic shapes that evoke the mountains of the Willamette Valley and the shapes of indoor climbing holds. I was inspired by the image of overlapping hills coming together in a sort of venn diagram, which reminded me of how people come together in the gym. The wordmark, adapted from AUTHENTIC Sans, features angular and soft edges and a rugged, chalky texture.
I spent a lot of time in my sketchbook brainstorming!

The color palette is comprised of bold colors that point to the bright holds making up a bouldering wall, along with more muted earth tones that conjure up the natural environment of Oregon. The gym encourages fitness and climbing hard, but it’s also a warm, inviting gathering space where people linger, share snacks, and catch up with friends. In this rebrand, I wanted to communicate these two aspects of the gym—the physicality of climbing along with the collaborative nature of the sport.
